SCOPE organizes Business Quiz Bonanza as part of Public Sector Day celebrations

Fostering inter organizational learning and teamwork, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) hosted a thrilling Business Quiz Bonanza at SCOPE Complex, New Delhi. The event was addressed by Shri Amarendu Prakash, CMD, SAIL; Shri Atul Sobti DG, SCOPE and Shri Uttam Lal, Program Director & Director (Pers.), NHPC. Witnessing an overwhelming response, the event was attended by around 120 teams from 26 PSEs across the country.

Enunciating the contributions and achievements of the Public Sector, Quiz tested the acumen of participants on a wide range of topics, including business, economics and current affairs.

Winners of SCOPE Business Quiz Bonanza are- Anshuman Srivastava & K. M. Prasanth, NTPC (Winner); Subhasish Wilfred Kispotta & Anand Raj, SAIL (Runners-up).

SCOPE Sports Premier League organized

More than 150 participants from over 30 PSEs compete to clinch titles
As part of Public Sector Day celebrations, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) organized SCOPE Sports Premier League featuring Badminton and Table Tennis competitions at SCOPE Social Interaction Centre (SSIC), Lodhi Road, its newly launched facility. Shri K. S. Murthy, CMD, BHEL; Smt. Indu Puri, Veteran TT player and Shri Atul Sobti, DG, SCOPE felicitated winners of the tournament that was contested by over 150 participants from over 30 PSEs across the country.

Winners who clinched the titles are: Hitesh Kr. Sharma, EIL (Badminton, Men Singles); Ria Dhameja, IOCL (Badminton, Women Singles); Ajay Jha, FCI (TT, Men Singles); Ritu Rana, FCI (TT, Women Singles); Rajasekar V. and Ashish Deep, ONGC (Badminton, Men’s Doubles); Dr. Pinki Roy & Aditi Bisht, NHPC (Badminton, Women’s Doubles); Ashish Kumar & Aditi Bisht, NHPC (Badminton, Mixed Doubles) and Rajinder Singh, IRCON in Veteran category (Badminton, Men Singles).

SCOPE Sports Premier League has been initiated by SCOPE to encourage inter- organizational learning and competitiveness amongst sportspersons in the Public Sector. SCOPE has dedicatedly been working towards highlighting the contribution of PSEs in inducing and nurturing sports talent in India. SCOPE Sports Premier League is the first such Sports event organized by SCOPE towards its endeavour of encouraging sportsmanship.

SCOPE organizes Public Sector Day celebrations

SCOPE Social Interactive Centre (SSIC) inaugurated as part of celebrations
Embarking on a new journey and part of Public Sector Day celebrations, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) inaugurated the first-of-its-kind ‘SCOPE Social Interaction Centre’ (SSIC), at SCOPE Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. SSIC was inaugurated by Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman, SCOPE & CMD, GAIL in the presence of Shri Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE; Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Vice-Chairman, SCOPE & CMD, Goa Shipyard; Dr. Vasundhara Upmanyu, Joint Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises (DPE); Shri Lucas L. Kamsuan, Joint Secretary, DPE; Ms. Michiko Miyamoto, Country Director, ILO India. Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC; Shri K.S. Murthy, CMD, BHEL; Shri Amarendu Prakash, Chairman, SAIL; Ms. Vartika Shukla, CMD, EIL; Shri K.P. Mahadevaswamy, CMD, NBCC; Shri Pravin Kumar Purwar, CMD, MTNL; Members, SCOPE Executive Board, Chairmen, Directors of PSEs and Senior officials from ILO, DPE,SCOPE associates were also present. Public Sector Day celebrations are being organized in PSEs across the country.

During the event, a Coffee table book titled ‘Samaveta’ – a succinct representation of vision and role of SCOPE, and special issue of SCOPE’s monthly magazine KALEIDOSCOPE on ‘PSEs – Envisioning Viksit Bharat’ were also released.

Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta said that Public Sector Day is commemoration of the spirit of the Public Sector and all the endeavours of SCOPE including the SSIC are a step towards empowering PSEs. He further highlighted the continuous endeavours of SCOPE towards policy advocacy, and assured that the apex body will continue to pursue it with utmost vigour.

Shri Atul Sobti in his address highlighted the dynamic role being played by PSEs in the socio-economic progress of the nation and emphasised that Public Sector can achieve anything if there is synergy amongst them. SCOPE, as the apex body, he added, continues to undertake endeavours to foster an environment of synergy and coherence amongst PSEs.

Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay speaking on the occasion said that the newly inaugurated SSIC, like all SCOPE’s endeavours, will further strengthen the collaboration amongst the PSE fraternity.

Each year, Public Sector Day celebrations are held on 10th April commemorating the incessant role of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) in the national economy. This year, month-long celebrations being organized by SCOPE include Sports event, Art Exhibition & Competition, Business Quiz, and a Health program.

SCOPE - GIZ, Germany organize workshop on ‘Decarbonisation of India’s PSEs and the Role of Green Hydrogen’

Taking its Green Skilling endeavour to the next mile, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) in association with GIZ, Germany organized a Workshop on ‘Decarbonisation of India’s Public Sector Enterprises and the Role of Green Hydrogen’ at SCOPE Complex in New Delhi. The inaugural session was addressed by Shri Ajay Yadav (IAS), Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE); Dr. Stephan Hesselmann, Minister Counsellor, Economic Affairs, German Embassy; Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman, SCOPE & CMD, GAIL (India) Ltd.; Ms. Ruchika Drall, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC); Shri Farhad Vania from GIZ and Shri Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE.

The workshop also witnessed presentations and discussions by Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power; Indo-German Energy Forum; MNRE; MoEFCC; European Investment Bank, World Bank, KfW Development Bank & industry experts to deliberate on green hydrogen, India’s readiness and climate finance etc.

More than 300 participants from 45 PSEs attended the workshop, both physically and virtually.

International Delegation joins SCOPE’s Women’s Day celebration

Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) observed the International Women’s Day at SCOPE Complex, New Delhi. Shri Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE calling women ‘multifaceted’ and the ‘embodiment of strength and exuberance’, exhorted them to give their best and transcend to newer heights of success. The celebrations were joined by International delegates from 25 countries as part of VVGNLI program.

SCOPE’s ‘National Meet on RTI Act’ organized in Shillong

Bringing its capacity building endeavour to the North Eastern region of the country, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), an apex body of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) organized its ‘National Meet on Right To Information (RTI) Act’ in Shillong, Meghalaya. The meet was addressed by Shri Heeralal Samariya, Chief Information Commissioner, CIC; Shri H. Nongpluh, State Chief Information Commissioner, Meghalaya; Shri Atul Sobti Director General, SCOPE and Senior officials of Meghalaya Govt., Govt. of India and PSEs. The meet was attended by over 80 participants from 34 PSEs.

Shri Heeralal Samariya interacting with the participants said that the intention of the Right to Information Act is to foster transparency and accountability in governance. Commending the large participation in SCOPE’s workshop, he asserted that though RTI is a small Act, it is the most powerful Act. He further advised officials to facilitate information to the Public as it is their right, and be up-to-date in displaying their information in the public domain.

Shri H. Nongpluh spoke about how RTI is one of the most empowering Acts and the mindset of the Public Information Officer (PIO) is pivotal and they must be prompt in giving replies of RTIs. He also emphasized that such programs must be organized frequently to create better awareness about the Act.

Shri Atul Sobti in his address shared that SCOPE decided to organize this National Meet in Shillong due to the rising prominence of the city, as it takes steps towards becoming a Smart City. Calling RTI the most unique, vital and empowering legislation, DG, SCOPE emphasized that the idea to conduct this meet across various regions was to facilitate more clarity, inform and deliberate on the various provisions of RTI.

Addressed by a unique mix of Government representatives and faculty, the interactive meet was another step by SCOPE to take its capacity building endeavour to different regions of the country, through workshops on pertinent topics ranging from Corporate Governance, Climate change to Women empowerment, Leadership, Digital transformation etc.

SCOPE organizes Public Procurement Workshop in Shillong

Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), an apex body of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) organized a workshop on ‘Public Procurement- Issues and Challenges and Sharing of Experiences of Best Practices,’ which was inaugurated by Smt. Ravneet Kaur, Chairperson, Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the presence of Ms. Anupama Anand, Secretary, CCI and Shri Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE in Shillong, Meghalaya. Senior officials from CCI, GeM and various PSEs across the country were also present. The meet is being attended by 85 participants of 31 PSEs from diverse sectors.

In her inaugural address, Smt. Ravneet Kaur said that amidst globalisation, the need for a robust market system that supports competition and also discourages any anti-competitive practices has been magnified, and the aim of Competition Law is to create an ecosystem where competition thrives. Emphasizing on the economic and social significance of Public Procurement, she complimented SCOPE for organizing the workshop on this pertinent subject.

Ms. Anupama Anand in her address said that the role of Public Procurement is multifaceted and signified that such workshops are catalysts in propelling organizations towards a more efficient, transparent and innovative public procurement landscape.

Shri Atul Sobti in his address said that Public Procurement facilitates a transparent and efficient governing system, and seeing the sheer value and volume of procurement, its role cannot be underestimated. He further highlighted SCOPE’s continued endeavour to conduct workshops on pertinent subjects across the country.

SCOPE has over the years expedited its efforts towards conducting regular workshops on pertinent topics, across diverse regions of the country. Focusing on the North-Eastern region of the country, SCOPE is organizing another workshop on ‘Right to Information’ in Shillong.

SCOPE organizes EPFO Interactive Session with PSEs

As part of furthering its capacity building interventions and creating unique opportunities of dialogue, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) organized an interactive session between Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) at SCOPE Complex, New Delhi. Shri Atul Sobti DG, SCOPE; Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Vice Chairman, SCOPE and CMD, Goa Shipyard Ltd. and EPFO team led by Shri R.M. Verma, ACC(HQ) addressed the session. The engaging interactive session between PSEs and EPFO officials was also webcasted live and deliberated upon fostering a transparent, collaborative approach in managing employee welfare schemes with special focus on EPS 95. The session was participated by over 1000 participants virtually and 150 Senior officials in person.

SCOPE to organize Workshops on ‘Public Procurement’ & ‘RTI’ in Shillong

Pursuant to taking capacity building endeavours to diverse regions of the country, Standing Conference of Public Sector Enterprises (SCOPE), an apex body of Public Sector Enterprises is organizing programs on ‘Public Procurement’ and ‘Right to Information Act’ at Hotel Vivanta, Shillong on 29th February – 1st March, 2024 and 1st March 2024 – 2nd March, 2024 respectively.

With special focus on the North Eastern region, the Workshops will be graced by Shri Heeralal Samariya, Chief Information Commissioner, CIC; Smt. Ravneet Kaur, Chairperson Competition Commission of India; Shri H. Nongpluh, State Chief Information Commissioner, Meghalaya; Shri Atul Sobti DG, SCOPE, Industry experts and Senior Government officials.

National Meet of Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS) under aegis of SCOPE

National Meet of Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS) under the aegis of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), was organized in Bengaluru. Shri Atul Sobti Director General, SCOPE addressed the meet inaugurated by Her Highness, the Maharani of Mysore, Smt. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar. Attended by over 650 participants from across the country, the meet was held in the presence of Ms. Varsha Raut, President, WIPS and senior officers of Public Sector fraternity. Speakers exhorted women to identify their inimitable potential to succeed and ability to bring a unique perspective to everything. They also urged participants to accentuate their skills, create new benchmarks at work, by accepting challenges and breaking barriers.

SCOPE hails ‘directional’ budget paving roadmap for inclusive and comprehensive development

SCOPE, an apex body of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs), compliments the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister for presenting a balanced and a directional Interim Budget 2024. “This ‘directional’ Budget paves a roadmap for inclusive and comprehensive development by integrating all stratas and sectors of the economy for a developed India.” said DG SCOPE

While appreciating the Interim Budget, Shri Atul Sobti, DG, SCOPE added that though the announcements are macro in nature, they are likely to boost the overall socio-economic development of the country as it gives requisite impetus to economic prosperity by empowering youth, women and the marginalized; social development by focussing growth and development of rural India and focusing on environmental sustainability so as to contribute towards a greener planet. The inclusivity aspect combined with focus on infrastructure development and synergy amongst sectors would pave the way for a sustainable inclusive development.

Highlighting the role of PSEs in the developmental journey of the country, he added that with presence of the public sector in strategic areas, they shall continue to play a pivotal role in achieving the economic growth in the country as the Budget paves way for innovation, digitisation and investment led growth.

SCOPE revisits Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless principles of Ethical Leadership

Remembering the Father of the nation on the 76th Martyrs’ Day, Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) organized a Symposium on ‘Reflections on Mahatma Gandhi’s Ethical Leadership.’ The program was addressed by Shri Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary (CA), Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution; Shri Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE and Dr. Shobhana Radhakrishna, Eminent Gandhian. Offering an insight into Gandhiji’s principles of Ethical leadership centred around values and integrity, the program deliberated upon the necessity of these principles amidst the changing paradigms at workplaces. The symposium was enthusiastically participated by a large number of participants from across the country.

Vice-President of India confers SCOPE Awards to PSEs

Vice President calls Public Sector the Pride of the Nation and spine of the Indian economy
The Hon’ble Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar conferred the SCOPE Awards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi during the event organised by Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE).  Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman, SCOPE; Shri Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE and Shri Brajesh Kumar Updadhyay, Vice Chairman, SCOPE were also present on the dais. The function was attended by Senior Government Officials from various Ministries & Departments of Government; senior officials from PSEs and national, international associates of SCOPE. The program was attended both physically and virtually by a large number of participants. SCOPE Awards commemorate the innovative, development driven and entrepreneurial spirit of Public Sector Enterprises.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-President commended the potential and capability of the Public Sector Enterprises by calling them the pride of the Nation and spine of the Indian economy. He appreciated the rich human resources of the PSEs and also guided them to optimise their talent pool, take initiatives towards research and development while embracing emerging and disruptive technologies.

Chairman, SCOPE, Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta on this occasion said that PSEs have come a long way playing a balanced role in ensuring economic development, social justice and employment generation and these awards have been instituted cognizant of the varied initiatives of PSEs in the nation’s growth.

In his address Director General, SCOPE, Shri Atul Sobti said that commemorating the achievements of the Public Sector, SCOPE Awards are a festival of PSEs’ achievements, as they reverberate and celebrate the undying spirit and incessant role of PSEs as nation builders. He further added that SCOPE as the apex body of PSEs will continue to take newer initiatives for enhancing performance and competitiveness of PSEs while showcasing their achievements on national and international forums.
